How it folds

Recent MacBooks have a lid angle sensor. DuoLid reads it 60 times a second while the lid moves and drives macOS’s own live blur from it.

1Rest

Nothing happens while you work. The effect starts below 110°, or below wherever the lid last rested, so a small nudge is a small change.

2Fold

As you close it, blur climbs toward the top edge, the desktop swells 30% around the hinge, and the screen fades to black just before it shuts.

1.5 s

3Still

Hold the lid still for a moment and the screen snaps back to sharp. Opening plays the whole thing in reverse.

Install in one line

The script builds the app, runs its self-test, copies it to Applications, checks the lid sensor and launches it. Run it again to update.

Terminal
$gh repo clone promenaut-chamby9/duolid && cd duolid && ./install.sh
MacBook Pro 14"/16" (M1 Pro+) or MacBook Air (M2+) macOS 14 or later Xcode Command Line Tools

Or hand it to your coding agent

Clone promenaut-chamby9/duolid from GitHub (it's private, so use gh repo clone), run ./install.sh --login from the repo, and tell me the lid angle it reports. If it says the Command Line Tools are missing, run xcode-select --install, wait for me to finish the installer, then run it again.

Add --login to start it at login. Want a different feel? The knobs (blur strength, swell, where it starts, the still delay) sit at the top of DuoLid.swift. Edit them and run ./build.sh.
